On August 25th, SAIC-GM announced the appointment of Wang Chendong and Tyson Becker as vice presidents to lead its newly established software and digital business organization, following the approval of its board of directors.

Integrating the resources of SAIC-GM’s entire business chain, Wang and Becker will establish a local team to design, develop, and operate software solutions and services aimed at creating a best-in-class intelligent connected and digital experience for Chinese customers.

Wang previously served as product, marketing and strategy director of SAIC-GM Connectivity and Experience, executive director of the SAIC-GM Connected Vehicle Line, and general manager of SAIC Intelligent Vehicle Innovation and Development. Becker’s earlier posts include director of the GM China Digital Business, chief product officer at the General Motors China Premium Import business, general manager of Shanghai OnStar, and deputy executive director of the SAIC-GM Connected Vehicle Line.

They bring extensive experience in vehicle software and digitalization and will lead the team to accelerate the development and deployment of software technologies and solutions, and redefine the digital and intelligent experience for customers.

SAIC-GM was the first automaker in China to offer connectivity and telematics service with the local introduction of OnStar in 2009. Shanghai OnStar has provided more than 1.5 billion connectivity services to 7.63 million users to date.

The joint venture has also been accelerating the development and deployment of software-defined vehicles and providing customers a transformative intelligent driving experience. In recent years, it has rolled out technologies such as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform and the new generation of Super Cruise driver assistance technology.

The newly established software and digital business organization will bring faster innovation in software development and accelerate the deployment of digitalization to create cutting-edge solutions to satisfy customers’ diverse needs and support the joint venture’s vision of "leading smart mobility and achieving a better life."
